The hunt for an Austin web developer gig

After a one week visit to Austin, TX I am sold! It is an awesome place with awesome people. So awesome that we put a deposit on a place for June 1! Excellent! Only issue now is one of us getting a job. Although I have been contacted by several recruiters, most are saying that the positions need to be filled yesterday. It is less than 2 months away, June 1 is a typical start date for any entry level position.

Daily I scourer Dice, Monster, Door64, Career Builders, Austin Recruiter, the list just goes on and on. Between the economy and my current location in Windsor, CT I am finding it very difficult to be seriously considered for a position.

Any recommendations out there? How did you get your first full time Web Developer position?
